2026 Self-Denial Theme: "Change for Change"

The 2026 Self-Denial Appeal is all about “Change for Change,” inspired by John 6:9–11. Just like the story of the loaves and fish, our small offerings, when placed in God’s hands, can reach farther than we could ever imagine. This story reminds us that God can use what we give to do amazing things! When we give from our hearts, He multiplies our gifts in ways that can change lives all around the world.

The “change” we give (whether it’s a few coins, a dollar bill, or even skipping a snack or treat) can help people who need it most. Maybe it’s a family who doesn’t have enough food, a child who can’t go to school without supplies, or a community rebuilding after a disaster.

Self-Denial started in 1886 when The Salvation Army founder General William Booth asked Salvationists to give joyfully and sacrificially so that others could experience God’s love. Today, kids, teens, and adults around the world are still participating in Self-Denial, showing God’s love through their generosity.

The money raised through Self-Denial is used where it’s needed most. It helps support leaders and volunteers, keeps churches and programs running, and provides essential resources for ministry. These are things we might not always notice, but without them, God’s work would be much harder to carry out. By giving, we help make sure that Salvation Army officers, staff, and volunteers can focus on what matters most: serving people and spreading hope.

Throughout 2026, resources for the Self-Denial appeal will help you and your corps find fun and meaningful ways to give. Whether it’s a coin box at home, a small challenge at school, or a creative fundraiser with friends, every gift matters.

Together, our small sacrifices can bring real change. By giving from our hearts, we join God in making the world a brighter and more hopeful place. Let’s be part of Change for Change this year!
