World Services

What is World Services?

World Services refers to the religious and social services programs conducted around the world by the Salvation Army. Many of these programs are financially supported by designated voluntary contributions of individual Salvationists and friends who participate in self-denial.

Self-denial has been practiced in The Salvation Army since 1886, as a way for Salvationists to exercise joyful, sacrificial giving in order to bless others in need around the world. Whether rich or poor, Salvationists all around the world participate in self-denial. We are all part of the global church, partnering with God to do His work here on earth.

The year-round World Services Appeal includes the components of education, public awareness, prayer and fundraising to support The Salvation Army’s worldwide ministry. Funds raised help further The Salvation Army’s work in other countries. As a part of Christian stewardship, officers and soldiers are encouraged to give sacrificially to World Services.

How does my giving to World Services make a difference?

When you give to World Services, you help further the mission of The Salvation Army to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs around the world. The money raised during the World Services Appeal provides essential funding required for the ongoing ministry of the Army. Your support funds projects that strengthen the spiritual mission, organizational capacity, and infrastructure of The Salvation Army so that communities can focus on specific needs and concerns, such as education, health, clean water, income generation or human-trafficking issues.

In many locations, without the financial support offered through World Services, ministries overseas would not have sufficient funds to operate.

The mission of The Salvation Army worldwide can only continue with your prayerful and practical support. It is a mission that continues to grow as The Salvation Army is welcomed into additional countries. We thank the Lord for these new opportunities, understanding the need to ensure that the finances are available to nurture these young churches.

What resources are available to help our corps in our World Services effort?

Resources include videos, posters, goal charts, partner-in-mission prayer cards, pledge cards and coin boxes available to download and print or order free of charge for USA Western Territory corps, ARCs, and centers.

For ideas on implementing the World Services Appeal at your corps, view our Ideas for Implementation resource.  If you have a World Services fundraising idea or resource you would like to share, please write to us at world.missions@usw.salvationarmy.org.
