Camp | Making Ends Meet

Jan 31, 2017 | by Kathy Lovin

During winter or spring break, many families look forward to visiting relatives, taking a ski or beach getaway, or even going on an overseas mission trip.

But for even more families, it's just another week at work for mom and dad who have to keep at it so they can cover the bills. The concern about keeping the kids safe and active during this time is very real for these families.

Thankfully, The Salvation Army has a helpful solution. In many locations around the US, we hold winter and spring day camps - like our summer programs - and Vacation Bible School so mom and dad can keep working when the kids are off from school. And the kids get a mini-vacation too, enjoying educational, social and athletic activities with their friends.

"We want to be a service to this community so that means we open the doors during winter and spring break to give kids a safe place to be together and enjoy enriching programs," said Captain Anthony Barnes. "It's what moms and dads need so they can stay at work. Helping people make ends meet is something The Salvation Army is called to do and one of the things we're best at too."
