The Salvation Army Denver Metro announces new Board Chair
DENVER, CO (February 4, 2021) – The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that Alphonso B. Hawkins was elected as Chair of the Advisory Board of The Denver Metro Salvation Army. He replaces Greg Milzcik who ended his term as Chair in January 2021.
Hawkins is Vice President of Commercial Banking at US Bank. He has been in banking with the company since 1992, and stayed through mergers and acquisitions. Hawkins graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.
Hawkins, a Denver native, serves the community in many ways. In addition to his banking career, he is the Pastor of Divine Love Christian Center, board member at All Health Network, finance committee member of the Colorado Nonprofit Association and board member of Risk Management Associates (RMA). Hawkins has been a part of The Salvation Army board since 2003.
Growing up in a broken home, Hawkins went to The Salvation Army Denver Red Shield everyday afterschool and played games and sports. “It would have been very easy for me to get in to trouble, but it was the Red Shield that helped me stay on that path. It was a huge impact in my life,” says Hawkins.
“I’m really charged with what The Salvation Army is doing in the community with family housing. The community needs it and I’m excited to help ensure The Salvation Army is strategically in the best position to accomplish their goals,” says Hawkins. “There are so many great things The Salvation Army does that people don’t know about, and I want to help let the community know that they do much more than feed people around the holidays.”
“We are incredibly blessed to have our board led by someone with great initiative and passion for what we do,” says Major Mike Dickinson, The Salvation Army Intermountain Divisional Commander. “Alphonso is an outstanding leader in our community, and I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing our efforts grow.”
In addition to a change in the Chair, Bob Rensink, Vice President of Denver Mattress, was elected The Salvation Army Denver Metro Vice Chair, a new position as of this year.
The Salvation Army Denver Metro Advisory Board Executive Committee includes: Alphonso B.
