The Salvation Army Partners With Denver-based Pillow Company to Deliver Sleep Comfort to People in Need Across the Country
(DENVER, COLORADO)– The Salvation Army is teaming up with a pillow startup company to bring the gift of sleep to those in need throughout the United States. Parallel Inc. – based in Denver – designs and distributes a high-end, sustainable pillow, called Parallel Pillow. For every Parallel Pillow sold, Parallel Inc. (@Parallel_Sleep) will donate one to The Salvation Army.
Sleep deprivation is one of the main challenges facing the roughly 600,000 unhoused people in the United States. The Salvation Army provides safe shelter to nearly 30,000 people every night, and homeless shelters are consistently in need of pillows to provide as much comfort as possible for these displaced individuals.
The partnership was originally intended to be temporary during the busy 2023 holiday season. But after observing the amount of work The Salvation Army is doing with people experiencing homelessness in the Denver Metro area, Parallel Pillow offered to make the partnership permanent.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Parallel in bringing such high-quality pillows to people in need,” said Major Nesan Kistan, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army’s Intermountain Division. “Pillows are so important to humans, and they provide the most basic yet essential comfort to someone who has been displaced and is suffering. This partnership will provide the reach necessary to make pillow donations super impactful.”
The pillows are being distributed to homeless shelters within the Intermountain Division – Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and eastern Montana – but the company hopes to eventually ship them to Salvation Army Corps and warehouses worldwide.
“This 1:1 donation model is an initiative at the heart of Parallel Inc.’s mission to share revitalizing and restorative sleep with as many individuals as possible,” said Erin Gaynier, product lead for Parallel Inc. “This will make a significant impact on the lives of those facing various challenges, including individuals in shelters, people displaced by disasters and severe weather events, and those experiencing homelessness. Partnering with The Salvation Army makes it all possible.”
