Spring Fundraisers

May 18, The Salvation Army Alaska Division welcomed over 400 guests to the 12th annual Transformed Treasures spring auction and luncheon at the Egan Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage. Artists, sponsors, new and returning guests enjoyed an afternoon meal, learned a little about The Salvation Army and bid on donated transformed treasures.

The event is known for auctioning treasures purchased from local Salvation Army thrift stores that have been renewed, recycled and refurbished by local Alaskan artists, hence the name “transformed”, to raise funds for critical needs of local Salvation Army community programs.

This year, the event raised $13,030 from live and silent auction items for bid from Salvation Army supporters and attendees.

Amongst many other amazing pieces, one of the most notable artist submissions included a piece by Debbie Dubac called Radiant Raven. The Radiant Raven was an electric room heater in the shape and decoration of a raven. Most intriguing is the fact that the piece was created from a school chair, oscillating heater, salad tossers and a wooden rack.

“The transformed treasures spring auction and luncheon is one of our most popular fundraising events of the year,” said Major John Brackenbury, The Salvation Army Alaska Divisional Commander. “I feel like it really brings in a creative audience and promotes not only The Salvation Army programs and thrift stores, but the fun and creativity that can go into reusing good items and being environmentally friendly.”

Each year there are some artists that choose to put their creativity to the test with challenge piece submissions. The challenge, as determined by The Salvation Army’s committee for 2019, was glass and outdoor art. We had a plethora of submissions and everyone did a fabulous job!

Congratulations to all of our winners and The Salvation Army sincerely thanks our participating artists, bidders and sponsoring organizations.
