The Salvation Army Celebrates its Centennial Anniversary, Serving the Community of Juneau
Juneau, AK – On Saturday, May 14th, The Salvation Army of Juneau will celebrate 100 years serving in the local community with festivities commencing at Douglas Island Pioneer Pavilion in Savikko Park from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Juneau Corps Officers, Majors Shane and Gina Halverson will host the weekend’s programs with Mayor Beth Weldon and Representative Sara Hannan in attendance along with Commissioner Jolene Hodder, National Program Secretary of The Salvation Army. Performances will be given by Mini Fiddlers, Alaska Youth Choir, Atiatihan Dancers, Spirit Lodge Drummers and the Salvation Army Brass Ensemble. The Juneau String Ensemble will also be a part of the festivities and will perform at the 100th Anniversary Dinner (invitation only) on Friday evening.
Major Gina Halverson said,” It’s very uplifting to see how the community of Juneau really comes together to support one another and work together. One hundred years is certainly a very long time! The Salvation Army is fortunate to have built an enduring relationship with the community, and we are so thankful to be part of this celebration.”
Lt. Colonels Doug and Sheryl Tollerud, whom will also be in attendance for the two-day celebration, serve as the Divisional Commander and Divisional Director of Women’s Ministries and Secretary for Program for The Salvation Army throughout the state of Alaska. “We are excited to be part of this momentous occasion and in recognizing the great work and partnership that has been ongoing between the local Salvation Army Corps and the residents of Juneau. It’s the century-long commitment of those donors and volunteers who have helped us in our mission to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our state without discrimination,” said Lt. Colonel Doug Tollerud.
