Jesus On The Go

Oct 18, 2016 | by Thomas Brown

A recent graduate of The Salvation Army College for Officers, Lt. Antonio Romero is full of excitement to begin work at his first posting in Cordova, Alaska. Both Antonio and his wife Heather grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and were inspired to do the Lord’s work after seeing the great need of people there who were at rock bottom. In Cordova, the Romero’s have been warmly welcomed as they bring their passion and energy to The Salvation Army’s mission in this small Prince William Sound community.

One of these passions is to record a weekly sermon and release it on Facebook.  Every week for the past two and a half months, Lt. Antonio has filmed himself speaking God’s truth and shared it with the world.  “I really don't have a theme.” Says the Lieutenant, “It's just looking up a daily scripture and using these videos as a devotion for myself.”

It really all started with an idea for ministering to people outside the perimeters of the Outpost building. The way Lt. Antonio thought, even if those people don't attend church, they do ‘attend’ every like and Facebook post on a daily basis.

“I enjoy just speaking, sharing the Word and being able to tweak it to the audience that I know decently enough, and that's Cordova.” Says Lt. Antonio, “We need to be a part of the media generation.  I have had some people come up to me and say, ‘I really enjoy your Facebook devotions.’  One lady said, ‘I really like watching them because I can't always make it to church because of work but, I can get Jesus on the go’

Lieutenant Romero makes these videos as an outlet for those who can't attend church, who won't attend church or are afraid to attend church. After all, the message is the message.  No matter if it's written, sung, or recorded.
