On December 7, The College Rotary Club in Fairbanks coordinated with The Salvation Army Corps Officers, Major Shevaun Malone and Lt. Rosie Garcia, to bring a fun and thoughtful Christmas event to 50 kids at the Fred Meyer West store in Fairbanks.

“It has been around longer than I have been in this role. It’s a great event and allows children to think more about the giving side of Christmas than the receiving,” said Rotarian Carol Callahan, who helped coordinate the event. “It has been long-supported by our Club because of its success and impact in the community.”

At the event, Rotarians and volunteers helped the children, aged 6 to 12 years old, find gifts for their parents and family members with a gift card provided by College Rotary Club. After shopping for gifts, the kids were transported to The Salvation Army Fairbanks Corps, by a bus sponsored by Holland America, to wrap their gifts for family. The kids ended the early morning event with a pizza party lunch.

“We are incredibly grateful to the College Rotary Club for supporting this event for over 30 years and to Holland America for providing the bus transportation,” said Major Malone, “The children had a fantastic time!”
