Coats ready to warm Alaska’s kids

This year’s Coats for Kids event is heating up for the Saturday distribution with close to 1000 coats collected for Anchorage youth. The Salvation Army along with our gracious community partners have worked hard to ensure this year’s coat drive is a success.
The distribution takes place Saturday Sept. 23, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army’s Anchorage Community Corps Center, 1701 C Street. Parents and guardians need to bring a photo ID and documentation showing that children are living with them. i.e. birth certificate, school id, TANF card, ect…
The Salvation Army in collaboration with many community partners has championed the Coats for Kids drive for more than ten years. This year’s event is in conjunction with Fireweed Dry Cleaning, 6th Ave. Outfitters, Fred Meyer, Alaska USA, Bass Pro Shop, Alaska Club, Able Body Shop, Atwood Bldg. VFW Post 9785, Body Renew, ACF Church, Kriner’s Burgers and Pies, American Legion Post #1, Denali Federal Credit Union, The Crossing, Total Truck Accessory Center, Eagle River Automotive, The Crossing, ACF Church and ANTHC.
Coats gathered for this year’s event are a combination of gently used and new items in assorted styles and sizes. Fireweed Dry Cleaning donated cleaning of coats. According to Jaclyn Ellis, Administration and Volunteer Coordinator with the Salvation Army Alaska Division, “This year’s event promises to good things. We have had great support from our community partners and have been able to assemble coats for school aged children from preschool up to high school.” Ellis said the Salvation Army will have volunteers on hand throughout the day for anyone that might need assistance.
