Non-Profit Partners, Volunteers and The Salvation Army Come Together to Meet Community Need

The 2018 Anchorage Neighborhood GIFT is a collaborative project between The Salvation Army Anchorage, The Food Bank of Alaska and Lutheran Social Services. December 11-13, 2018, staff and volunteers prepared the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage then spent two days helping families in need choose Christmas gifts for children and handing out food for a festive holiday meal, which included a full turkey.

Gifts for the event are provided by community supporters via Angel Trees, Toys for Tots, monetary donations and more. This year, event organizers were lucky enough to have the Rasmuson Foundation sponsor the full cost of the event venue.

Each year, GIFT participants line up outside prior to the start time in anticipation. Those who have pre-registered for the event go through the process first followed by day-of-event registrants. During the two-days, volunteers served over 12,000 gifts for children to 3,104 participating families.

Next year, the pre-registration dates will take place October 28 – November 2, 2019, in Anchorage.

Gift is truly made possible by our sponsors, volunteers and community members who donate gifts and food to those who need it most. We graciously thank the 744 individuals who provided a total of 2,637 volunteer hours and all the organizations and individuals who donated to make this successful.
