FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 14, 2018

Anchorage, AK – Today is the first day of pre-registration for gift recipients of the 2018 Anchorage Neighborhood GIFT event, to be held December 12 – 13, 2018, from 12 – 7 PM, at the Anchorage Sullivan Arena. Anchorage Neighborhood GIFT is an annual event that provides food and/or gifts for children in need who are 14 years of age and younger in the Anchorage bowl area. Families who are in need this holiday season can pre-register or register on the day of the event to receive food items for a festive family meal and/or gifts for children.

The 2018 Anchorage Neighborhood GIFT event is held in partnership between The Salvation Army Alaska Division, the Food Bank of Alaska and Lutheran Social Services of Alaska. The 2018 event location, Sullivan Arena, is provided by the generosity of the Rasmuson Foundation. Gifts for the event are provided by generous community members and organizations in Anchorage and the surrounding areas.

This year, Matson-Alaska is doing it big in creating a giving challenge for themselves to fill a standard shipping container with gifts for the Neighborhood GIFT program. Community members are welcome to help them fill it by dropping off a gift with port security at 2000 Anchorage Port Road, Anchorage, AK 99501.

“All the credit goes to our incredibly compassionate management and employee group, who over the years had supported just one family with such generosity, they felt this year filling a container and contributing to as many as we could, would truly be in the spirit of the Holidays,” stated Kenneth Gill, Matson-Alaska vice president.

Pre-registration for toy/gift recipients will be held at The Salvation Army McKinnell House, (A Street Entrance) 1712 A Street, Anchorage, AK 99501, Wednesday – Friday, November 14 – 16, 2018, from 9 AM to 4 PM and on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 10 AM – 6 PM.

More information regarding the 2018 Neighborhood GIFT event as well as a list of items needed for registration can be found at https://alaska.salvationarmy.org/alaska_division/neighborhood-gift.

Lutheran Social Services of Alaska

Lutheran Social Services of Alaska is a non-profit social service agency providing aid to low-income individuals and families throughout Alaska. Located in midtown Anchorage, our offices and food pantries serve hundreds of clients every week. Many of our clients live in desperate conditions: some have to make choices between heating their homes or paying for life-sustaining medications, many do not have the funds to purchase enough food, some have no roof over their head, and others suffer from substance abuse, medical issues, or mental health issues. As a partner of the United Way of Anchorage, we gain the opportunity to join with other agencies in addressing urgent human needs throughout the state of Alaska. Food Bank of Alaska

Food Bank of Alaska believes that no one deserves to be hungry. Since 1979 we have been securing donated food for partner food programs to distribute to hungry Alaskans. Food Bank of Alaska works with food industry partners to salvage food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. We also collect food donated by community members and administer government food programs. With your help last year, we distributed more than 6.8 million pounds – 5.7 million meals – statewide to 300 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and children’s programs feeding their hungry neighbors.
