In Mumbai’s Red-Light District, children of prostituted women are threatened by abuse and exploitation.
Mumbai’s Red-Light District has more than 3,000 young women and girls trapped in prostitution, but they are not the only ones in danger.
While poverty has led them to “work” on the streets and in brothels, their children are often neglected and left vulnerable to brothel owners and traffickers. Many of these children are malnourished, unprotected, and face barriers to education that could help provide a way out of the Red-Light District.
The Aruna Children’s Shelter stands against child abuse and exploitation by providing holistic care, protection and education to girls in Mumbai’s Red-Light District.

WHAT DOES MY $25 A MONTH DO?
Your sponsorship directly meets the critical needs of the children (food, shelter, medical care, education and vocational training) at a Salvation Army center, funding long-term programs and projects which ensure we provide essential services to the children for years to come. Your donation will benefit the center of your choice for as long as they are participating in the child sponsorship program, and will also meet urgent needs at other centers as they arise.
