When Disaster Struck, This Family Had Nowhere to Turn
It was a typical weekday morning for Carl and his family. He was at work. His wife was home with their two young sons. Their three girls had already left for school. But in the blink of an eye, everything changed.
“My little son said he saw the wall get dark, and then he saw fire,” Carl recalls. “My wife got the kids out of the house and called me. I rushed home, and when I arrived, the fire was out. Everything happened really fast.”
Although grateful to be safe, the family had lost nearly everything. “We were left with what we were wearing, and that was it,” Carl says.
Thankfully, your generosity made it possible for The Salvation Army to embrace the family in their time of need. Arriving even before the fire was out, The Salvation Army was there to help.
“They gave us so much,” Carl says. “Toys for our kids, clothes for all of us, and food. And they were really nice to us. It wasn’t one of those things where you felt bad asking for help. They were just really nice.”
The Salvation Army stuck with Carl’s family. And just 10 days after the devastating fire, they moved into their new home.
“It’s been hard for the kids,” Carl says. “They still have bad memories about what happened. It’s getting better, though.”
As the family gets back on track, Carl remains thankful. “I’m just really grateful for all of The Salvation Army’s help,” he says. “It was an amazing feeling to know that someone was working that hard to help us out.”
When disaster strikes, you are there through your generous support of The Salvation Army.
