The Salvation Army Activated to Support Public Safety Power-Shut Off

Los Angeles, December 4th, 2020 - - In an effort to reduce the risk of fires caused by electric infrastructure, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) and Southern California Edison (SCE) have activated Public Safety Power Shut-Offs (PSPS) across Southern California.

As a result, The Salvation Army will financially support over 23 households in need of temporary housing through a referral process with the local utility company and 211. Additionally, starting Thursday, December 3rd, The Salvation Army will deliver 1,020 blankets and 500 hygiene kits (with an estimated financial value of $7,100) to San Diego county residents staying at 9 Community Resource Centers (CRCs): Dulzura Community Development Center, Descanso County Library, Julian – Whispering Winds Catholic Camp, Lake Morena Community Church, Pine Valley Improvement Club, Potrero Community Center, Warner Springs Community Resource Center, Valley Center Branch Library, Ramona Branch Library. Power could be out for a number of households until Sunday, December 6th.
